Officials Break Ground On $56M Odenton MARC Transit Project

Authorities say the development will help the county and state yield hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues over the next 30 years.

ODENTON, MD — The ground was officially broken this week for a new commuter garage coming to the Odenton MARC Train Station, marking a big step forward in a $56 million development project.

Several county and state representatives, including Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman and Gov. Wes Moore, participated in Wednesday's groundbreaking ceremony.

"Our administration is dedicated to building transit accessible communities for Marylanders to enjoy for generations to come," Moore said in a statement.

"Soon, it will be easier than ever for Odenton residents to access the reliable and sustainable infrastructure they deserve, and we are excited to take this first step towards connecting our communities through accessible transit that leaves no one behind."

As Patch previously reported, more than 100 parking spaces were closed off to commuters at the station as part of an effort to build a new ADA-compliant commuter garage.

The garage construction is part of an even larger initiative to transform the immediate area into a new transit-driven community that will eventually include:

  • 585 residential units
  • Retail and public amenities
  • Pedestrian and bicycle paths

The construction of the new Odenton garage, which is expected to include over 1,000 parking spaces, has a targeted completion date of May 2028. Stay up to date with the construction.

Officials say the development could generate $270 million in tax revenue over the next three decades for the state and county.
