Anne Arundel County Police said the attempted robbery occurred as the armored truck driver had just made a cash pickup in Gambrills.

GAMBRILLS, MD — The driver of an armored truck recently fought off two men who attempted to steal a cash pickup from a McDonald's in Gambrills, police said.

The attempted robbery took place Friday at the McDonald's on the 1100 block of Crain Highway South, according to Anne Arundel County Police. Officers were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Authorities said the attempted robbery occurred when the armored truck driver was returning from McDonald's with the cash.

One of the accused robbers approached the driver from behind, prompting a struggle as he tried to snatch the cash bag. A second man later exited an arriving vehicle to assist in the robbery, according to police.

Both would-be robbers, however, were successfully fought off by the truck driver. They were seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Anne Arundel County Police identified the two accused men as 38-year-old Ryun Phillip Watson, of Washington, D.C., and Michael Andre Holmes Jr., a 32-year-old man from Odenton.

Watson and Holmes were arrested during a traffic stop on the 1000 block of Central Avenue, not long after fleeing the scene of the attempted robbery.

Both men were taken into custody after the car tied to the incident was spotted by an officer in the area.

Court records show Watson and Holmes remain held without bond and are each facing four charges, which include robbery and two counts of second-degree assault.

While Holmes is facing a misdemeanor charge of attempted theft, Watson was hit with a felony theft offense.

Watson is scheduled to next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 2. Holmes is expected to appear for his hearing on Nov. 25.
