MILLERSVILLE, MD – Squeezing in the time to exercise can be a challenge, but Millersville area residents now have a new fitness option to help them attain their goals. Lannette Gerbrick and her husband Troy Comer will be opening Anytime Fitness in Millersville. Many people are already familiar with Gerbrick, who has been teaching self-defense to women for the past six years at schools across Anne Arundel County.

“My husband, Troy Comer, and I can’t wait to open. We’re both passionate about helping others to reach their fitness goals. The reason you join a gym is for results, but you need more than cardio equipment and weights; you need motivation, education, nutritional information, someone to celebrate successes with and a team of people to get you there. We feel when members reach their goals, then we do,” Gerbrick told Patch.

Membership is open to people age 15 and older, although minors must be accompanied by a parent member.

“We have both men and women members and people of all ages who just want to get to a healthier place,” Gerbrick said.

Members also will be able to take one of Gerbrick’s self-defense classes for women soon to be offered at the new Anytime Fitness location.

“During our presale before we open, all new members will receive a free self-defense class and men will receive a coupon to give to a woman in their life for a class. I like to explain that your attacker picked you because they thought you would be submissive, but you’re going to show them you’ll fight back and that you are not worth the effort. I don't teach you to pull moves like Jackie Chan on your attacker, but I will teach you that surprise is on our side and very effective techniques to deter them from continuing, this gives you time to get away,” Gerbrick said. “Every teen/woman who has taken my class should leave feeling empowered.”
