2012 Election In Plain View But No One Knows Who to Vote For
A look at the 2012 Election Maps and what it means for local residents.

With the 2012 Election just around the corner Congressional candidates will need to kickoff the season soon; however, many do not know what doors they need to knock on. As a republican who lives in…let’s see…let me look at this congressional map again. In District 3, no 1, no wait it’s District 2. Of course I know my district as I am the president of the District 32 Republican Club and the campaign treasurer of the John R. Leopold campaign. But if I were not a political activist I would be easily puzzled.
Logically one would think that congressional maps would be organized regionally; however, in Maryland that is not the case. The congressional maps in Maryland look as if a 2 year old took a crayon and started drawing. Anne Arundel County residents expect to have their own Congressperson but that is not the case. After the last few censuses, Maryland decided to redistribute the maps as much as they could to keep the sitting party in power for an extended length of time. The democrats have the advantage of a heavy majority of registered voters in Annapolis and throughout Maryland. No one expects them to be polite and turn the maps back into a logical format as it may unseat a Democrat come November 2012. You can expect the Baltimore Orioles to win the World Series before that would happen, and we all know the reality of the Orioles’ chances of winning a World Series…it’s not going to happen anytime soon.
In a few weeks, the General Assembly in Annapolis will hold a special session to approve the congressional maps for the next 10 years. Republicans alike are all wondering…will the new maps be constitutional? It is thought that with the majority vote, democrats will redraw the districts that currently hold two in-office republicans and pull in more liberal voters from other districts ultimately bringing a different result in the November 2012 election. Republicans will obviously make a strong argument for the redistricting…an argument that will likely be decided in the courts. Likely Anne Arundel County residents will be affected as will nearby towns such as Elkridge..

If I were asked today who I would vote for or even research for the congressional primary election, I wouldn’t be able to answer. Only time will tell!
