Are you sticking with your big bank or making the move to a local institution? (poll)

Do you prefer banking with a national bank, local bank, or credit union? Take the poll and share your preference.

Banking is on the minds of more Americans today thanks to movements like Occupy Wall Street and Bank Transfer Day. Established in late 2011, both movements highlighted the benefits of switching from a big bank to a community bank or credit union - and in just the past year, the credit union industry has gained more than 2 million new members and surpassed $1 trillion in assets, according to Business Insider.

Even so, millions more continue to bank with the nation's largest financial institutions like JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, while data from JD Power and Associates shows satisfaction among big bank customers has actually been on the rise.

Clearly, the country is still divided when it comes to banking with a "big bank" versus a local bank or credit union. Large, national banks are leaders in stability, convenience and range of services, while local banks and credit unions provide the affordability and one-on-one attention bigger institutions often can’t match. However, a preference does exist and GoBankingRates is digging to find out what it is.
