It was a busy weekend at the after a rare "Derecho" storm made its way through the area late Friday night. The fast-moving storm passed over the western portion of Anne Arundel County at approximately 9 p.m. with near hurricane force winds. Almost immediately, crews from the company began responding for wires down and gas leaks as the strong wind gusts knocked down trees throughout the Odenton area.
Saturday saw a steady stream of calls as fire alarms sounded at various locations when BGE began to restore power. The station also responded to a few vehicle accidents in areas where traffic lights were still out. Saturday closed out as the busiest day of the weekend with 29 total responses. Sunday saw a decrease in calls, but stayed steady overall with building alarms and heat-related injuries.
In total, 30 people kept the station continuously staffed through the weekend while responding to 57 emergency calls.
