Blog: The Ron Paul Revolution

Ron Paul is an intriguing name to the liberty GOP caucus followers.

I state that liberty is not to be mistaken with liberal. In fact, in the 1980’s, Ron Paul ran as a libertarian candidate during a period in which the libertarian party had both a liberal and conservative branch of the small 3^rd party. Paul stated he was running to get some agendas back into the Republican Party and didn’t believe he could beat then Vice President, George H.W. Bush in 1988.

Paul has been a congressman for many years and in 2008, a following of Ron Paul started the Ron Paul revolution, an underground movement, so-to-speak, in the GOP party. They demanded, “Bring the GOP back to its proper roots!”

Congressman Paul believes in securing the dollar for today and into the future, and believes money being sent elsewhere by the US needs to come back home. Paul was one of 6 Republicans to vote against the Iraq war and believes our troops should be more focused on the homeland.

Dr. Paul, even as a congressman, was still delivering babies and to this day refused to sign up for the congressional medical and pension plans stating, “It’s wrong”, as he pays for the plans himself. Dr. Paul is one who wants to end the federal prohibition of marijuana for several reasons including medicinal purposes.

What is lost in Ron Paul’s 2012 GOP primary bid is he that he's announced he will not be seeking reelection to Congress in 2012, stating he is focused 100% on his bid to win the Presidential primary. Paul has been steady in all national primary polls, although recently, he has picked up steam in the Iowa polls and is starting to see progress in other state polls.

The question is: Can Ron Paul win?  

It is believed to be a long shot campaign as his special interest money is limited due to his beliefs that campaigns should be limited. Paul’s age, 77 in 2012, gives some voters a glass half empty kind of feel. However, the GOP Liberty Caucus Revolution vows to fight on beyond 2012 if their candidate comes up short. Paul’s son Rand is a freshman U.S. Senator who stated he does not intend to run for President in 2016, however, he is fully confident in his father making some noise when the votes start counting here in the coming days.

Ron Paul: The Long Shot is an interesting figure ongoing especially with his “Ron Paul Revolution” and rent blimps to promote him.  

Having met several of the local Maryland Ron Paul revolution supporters back in 2008, I can state they are dedicated individuals who truly believe in smaller government with fewer restrictions while giving rights back to the people of America.

Odds are, he will not win a state but if by chance he does pull an upset in any state, in the early going he could pick up enough steam to gain momentum and make a strong challenge to front runners Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney.
