People I Don’t Want to See Again

A short list of people I'd rather not have to see again.

We all have people we never want to see again—nasty neighbors, horrible co-workers, ex-girlfriends, and anyone who ever gave you an STD. But there are also people we don’t want to see because of other reasons. For example, I had a follow-up with a doctor this week as we continue to work on figuring out my nearly debilitating stomach issues. As much as I like this doctor (especially since we get to talk hockey), I’d just prefer not to have to see him again. No offense to him at all, but I’d much rather have my stomach issues go away and stay away.

As I sat there in the examining room waiting for him to see me, I began thinking about other people I’d rather not have to see again. And this thinking led me to come up with yet another list I can share with you fine and loyal Patch readers.

  1. My roof guy. Last year, when the hurricane thing blew through, my morning room ceiling developed a wet spot. I kept an eye on it and it never did it again until we had strong storms a few months ago. This time, it was worse. So, I called up a roof guy who fixed a different issue five or six years ago. This guy, Tim Taylor of Roof Pro, is great. He is professional, friendly, and the kind of guy you could go have a beer with. As much as I think he’s a cool guy, I’d much rather not have to see him again.
  2. BGE Home dude. Last weekend my A/C froze up on me. Cookies and I camped out in my girlfriend’s basement for a few days until a BGE Home repair dude could come out and take a look. He got me all fixed up and all is well again. If I have to see him or any other BGE Home guy again this year, it’ll only be because my A/C crapped out again and left me sweating through another terrible summer.
  3. Pharmacy ladies. The ladies at my local pharmacy where I get all my prescriptions filled are great. They are always very helpful, friendly, and know me by name now. I just wish I didn’t have to rely on so many medications to get me through the days. I remember a time where I hated taking aspirins. Now, I’m up to three medications a day and a pocketful of Xanax whenever I leave the house. Unfortunately, I figure I’ll continue to grow dependent on meds as I grow older.
  4. My therapist. I have made great progress while working with my current therapist. She’s awesome, and I enjoy our sessions and all the tools she’s helped me develop to deal with my issues. However, I look forward to a day where I won’t have to see her.
  5. My family. I love my family (for the most part). But anytime I have to see them, it’s not really for a good reason. I’m opposed to holidays that create obligatory get-togethers—Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I enjoy spending time with family, but it should be when we want to, not when we have to.
