Piranhas, and Sharks and Sea Dogs! Oh MY!
Summer swim teams are starting their season this weekend.
Teams across central Maryland will kick off their swim season this Saturday with time trials or mock dual meets to establish starting times for their first official dual meets on June 25, 2011. In our local area, there will be (rosters as of 6/15) 104 Piney Orchard Piranhas, 80 Maple Lawn Sharks and 116 Waugh Chapel Sea Dogs swimming at the Waugh Chapel Swim Club Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
When the Piney Orchard Swim Team joined the Central Maryland Swim League (CMSL) in 2006, the Waugh Chapel Swim Team took us under their kickboard and helped us learn the lane lines of competitive swimming. There are so many volunteers involved in running a swim meet and Waugh Chapel parents showed us the right way off the starting blocks and to the finish line. This year, we are swimming it forward and taking Maple Lawn (Fulton, MD) Sharks under our kickboards, how to dive off the blocks and showing them the lane lines. They joined the league this year and we’re excited to have them become part of the CMSL family.
So if you hear a little screaming on Saturday morning in the swim club vicinity that’s why. There are about 300 swimmers hitting the pool with grandparents, parents and sibings
cheering them on!

Oh, and before I forget, thank you to every volunteer on these teams. Your time and energy are what keep these teams going. We all appreciate you VERY much.
GO PIRANHAS!
