Piranhas or Sea Dogs?

In January of 2006, I had the pleasure of joining a small group of determined parents in Piney Orchard who were excited to start the summer swim team known as the Piney Orchard Piranhas. We were a unwavering group –we knew what we had to accomplish in a short period of time to get this team off the ground successfully. I know, I know–I just can’t say no to volunteering my time.

I am proud to say that the team is entering the 2011 season with an amazing group of returning parents that are dedicated to the team and who are excited to share their knowledge with our new parents joining the team. Not to mention their swimmers that improve constantly by getting their technique down to where they are cutting seconds off their time, and feeling an amazing sense of accomplishment at the end of the meet when it’s written in black and white that their hard work at practice is paying off.

As you’re considering what activities your children ages 4-18 are getting into this summer, think about a local swim team. Piney Orchard has a summer swim team, Waugh Chapel Swim Club also has a swim team and a dive team.  Registration for both teams are still open and please contact them with questions you may have. The meet schedules are also on all of the websites so you can stay informed.

Waugh Chapels swim team is limited to the members of the Club (League rules, not theirs) however, the Dive Team is not.

The swimmers work hard everyday at practice and compete on the weekends at meets both home and away.  They need community support so please don’t be upset if your pool has a delayed opening and don’t be mad that you’ve been inconvenienced for a few hours. Instead, come by and watch any of the home meets–we would love to have you. The swimmers love a huge cheering section! Not to mention, taco in a bag at 9 a.m. is a great breakfast!
