BLOG: Station 28 Hosts Odenton Day

Odenton Volunteer Fire Company serves as hub of community event.

The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company is well known in the area for helping to keep the public safe. This past Saturday however, the company added “bringing the community closer together” to its list of accomplishments while serving as the hub of activity for Odenton Day. Odenton Day is a celebration of both the town’s past as well as what it has to offer today. Jointly sponsored by the fire company, the Greater Odenton Improvement Association, the Odenton Heritage Society, and the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce; the day brought residents together with various community groups, government agencies, political candidates, and small businesses.

In addition to serving as the hub of activity, OVFC provided tours of fire apparatus and the station while also facilitating fire safety information and demonstrations to residents with the assistance of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. In addition to public safety education activities, residents were able to watch real world training as new company recruits received instruction on how to properly don their safety equipment.

All in all, the day was a rousing success. Members of the community left knowing that their local fire company is always prepared, whether it be for fighting fires or providing residents with education and entertainment.
