'Totally Local'

Save our local economy..it's easier than you think! You're going to want to share this!

"People don't want more information. They are up to their eyeballs in
information. They want faith ... faith in you, your goals, your success , in the
story that you tell."
-Annette Simmons, author of Whoever Tells the Best Story Wins.

This is my first blog for the patch and I thought I would take few
lines and tell you my story. I spent many years in corporate life, worked for a
large transportation company as a corporate recruiter. In 2005, I was looking for
a change, a challenge, a new adventure...what I found was the path to being an
entrepreneur.

If a challenge is what I was looking for, I had found it in Little House of Flowers! It's been a fantastic five-and-a-half years and we are excited to be a part of this community and hopefully will be delivering smiles for years to come.

I'm so excited to be writing a new blog for the Odenton Patch! I have titled it "Totally Local." Our mission is to bring an awareness about our local merchants, our neighbors, our churches and our community as a whole to you the reader. A perfect introduction to our "Totally Local" theme is  a national movement called the 3/50 Project.  (Find them at http://www.the350project.net/home.html) To sum it all up, shop at your local merchants and save the ecomony in your town. Now here's the interesting part:  For every $100 spent in locally-owned independent stores, $68.00 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expeditures.  If you spend that in a national chain, $43.00 stays here, buy it online and ZERO stays in our neighborhood, town, county, city and state.

WOW, that really hit home for me. I have friends who are police officers, firefighters and teachers, and I want my dollars to support my friends and neighbors...don't you?

Thanks for reading and next time we'll explore a great local business in our town!
