The Waugh Chapel Swim Team needs your help to raise money to replace 20-year-old diving blocks that have become a safety hazard to the kids. The pool purchased the starting blocks but the team now has to reimburse the pool.
They are having a Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast on June 11, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Applebee's at the Village at Waugh Chapel.
The swimmers will be your servers, hostesses and hosts for breakfast.

Starting blocks can cost anywhere between $2,500 to $4,000 a block depending on the manufacturer and style. Multiply that by how many lanes you have (usually five), and that's more than $20,000 in equipment. It's a good thing it should last another 20 years.
My summer swim team started their practices this week, and I have to tell you that there's nothing like watching these kids take to the pool for the first time. It's fantastic. The smile of a 4- or 5-year-old when they finish their lap at the end of the pool is priceless. What a huge sense of accomplishment on their part.

If you get a chance, come by and watch the swimmers do their thing. It's so cool.
