Capital: Benoit Resigns From Severn River Commission

The County Council member from District 4 reportedly disagreed with a position taken by the commission.

County Council member Jamie Benoit (D-District 4) has resigned from the Severn River Commission, citing concerns over the group's role, the Annapolis Capital reported Friday.

Benoit stepped down from commission after it took a position on an issue with which he and other county officials did not agree, the Capital said.

The Severn River Commission was created to advise the county on issues relating to the health of the river and its watershed. Members are appointed by the county executive and serve staggered three-year terms. The Capital said Benoit believed the group had "crossed the line from advisory to advocacy."
