County Reveals Piney Orchard Bus Stops, Hopes to Begin Service Soon

Anne Arundel County is still working to finalize an agreement with an operator to run a circulator bus from Piney Orchard to the Odenton MARC Station, but said service on the new route could begin by the end of the month. 

The county said the new bus would have 17 stops along Waugh Chapel Road, Strawberry Lake Way and Piney Orchard Parkway, and drop passengers off and pick them up at the MARC station's east parking lot. The buses would hold 26 passengers and the route would take about 25 minutes from beginning to end.

George Cardwell, administrator of the transportation division in the county's Office of Planning and Zoning, said he hoped to hand over control of the two low sulfur diesel buses to Central Maryland Regional Transit by the end of the week. The county and CMRT would then work to install signage at stops along the route and to make some mock runs. 

"My personal hope is that we'll begin the week of [Feb. 28]," Cardwell said in an e-mail.

The county acquired two of the buses using $386,000 in federal stimulus funds. Only one bus would operate at a time, with the other set aside as backup. Here is the most recent list of proposed stops:
