We need to do something now on therapist abuse and not wait for another study. There have been several studies done on therapist abuse including a report: Therapist-Patient Sex as Sex Abuse:Six Scientific, Professional, and Practical Dilemmas in Addressing Victimization and Rehabilitation by Kenneth S. Pope. Kenneth's report tells about how the boards including the American Psychological Association's "Ethical Principle 1 a that psychologists never suppress data disconfirming their favored hypotheses; APA, 1981 ), maintaining that itwas "not in the best interests of psychology to present it publicly" (B. Forer, personal communication, November 1984; see also Forer, 1980). "
It seems that they don't want everyone to know the results of the studies and if we allow them to do another study it will just stall what should have been done years ago.
Here are a few links on studies and research to help make this decision. Please, don't let them stall us again. Make therapist abuse a crime in Maryland and then we can work on other states. It is our right and obligation to protect the people of this state from the boards and delegates. Let's take our state back one step at a time and start with making this a crime. Don't let more people get hurt by these therapists.
