A 29-year-old driver died Tuesday morning after crashing into the back of a tractor without its trailer on Maryland Route 100.

HANOVER, MD — A driver died after crashing into a truck on Maryland Route 100 Tuesday morning, police say. The Jessup motorist was 29.
Police identified the victim as Jamie Avila. The incident report says Avila was heading westbound on Route 100 around 5 a.m. Avila was approaching the highway's junction with Maryland Route 295 when their Honda Civic slammed into the back of a Freightliner tractor without its trailer. Firefighters pronounced Avila dead on the scene.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department said the cause of the accident appears to be Avila's "failing to control speed to avoid a collision." The results of a toxicology test are still pending. Police are still investigating the accident.
