Caregiver Workshops Series Presents "The Dementia Series: Living in the Land of Oz"

The Fall 2011 Caregiver Workshops Series will present "The Dementia Series: Living in the Land of Oz" at the county’s seven senior activity centers, including O'Malley Senior Activity Center.

Caregivers taking care of their loved ones who have a dementia or Alzheimer’s disease will receive guidance and advice at the free workshops.

Mary Fridley, founder of Gero-Resources LLC, consultant, and registered nurse, will take part in the three workshops, offered by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.

The series begins Sept. 1 and will be held throughout the county at senior centers through mid-December.

  • "I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!" Learn about the different types of dementias, how they progress, current research and treatments and how to prepare for the future.
  • "Follow the yellow brick road…." This workshop will teach participants how to communicate effectively and create a pathway to successful behavior management.
  • "There’s no place like home…there’s no place like home…." This workshop will teach behavior management skills to use in everyday life.

The workshops will take place at O’Malley Senior Activity Center at 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton on Thursdays, Oct. 6, 13 and 20 at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
