Elementary School Primary Talent Development Program and Advanced Learner Programs Information Session
Anne Arundel County Public Schools officials are conducting information sessions around the county to update parents on the new structure of the elementary school Primary Talent Development (PTD) program and Advanced Learner Programs (ALPs).
"There has been so much discussion about the new direction of this program, and it is important that parents have an opportunity to have any concerns addressed or questions answered," said Dr. Maureen McMahon, assistant superintendent for advanced studies and programs, the division which oversees the program in a press release. "It is one thing to read about the changes, but it is another to see the program in action and then have a chance to discuss it. We are hoping the timing of these sessions allows parents to begin to experience the true potential of this program and then be in a better position to talk about it."
PTD is geared toward students in prekindergarten through grade 2. ALPs are for students in grades 3 through 5. According to the Anne Arundel County Department of Education, changes to the programs being implemented in the 2011-2012 school year are designed to offer more students in prekindergarten through fifth grade with enriched and advanced instruction more often. The county’s 77 elementary schools and two early education centers will provide all or part of the program, with full implementation at all schools to be completed in three years.
