Federal News Radio, WTOP Tackle BRAC

Federal News Radio 1500 AM and WTOP recently produced a special report on the impact of base realignment and closure (BRAC) activities in the area.

The five-part series, which included radio and online reports, featured analysis on the impact at Fort Meade and on the new workforce of the Defense Information Systems Agency. The series also touched on potential traffic impacts on the region.

Part 1 - An overview of BRAC, including an interview with the man who led the BRAC commission in 2005. 

Part 2 - Features interviews with officials from Fort Meade and Aberdeen Proving Ground, with an examination of the facilities' BRAC preparations.

Part 3 - A look at how longer commutes have forced the Defense Department to create more "creature comforts" at new facilities.

Part 4 - An examination of the impact on the civilian workforce and employers.

Part 5 - A look at the broad scope of BRAC-related changes across the county, plus an analysis of the push to make new federal buildings more environmentally friendly.
