Five Things: Barbecue, Birdie, Bullying and Lacrosse

Here's a list of potentially interesting events for residents of Odenton and Severn.

There are a handful of interesting things happening this week, including some events at the schools and a big barbecue fest down at the fairgrounds. Have a great week!

Details: The commission will hold its monthly meeting and invited Vernon Hustead of the Association of Landscape Architects, as well as George Eberle of the county's Office of Permits and Inspections.

When: Thursday and Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: auditorium

Details: Check out the Arundel High Players Theatre Company and their performance of the Adam and Strouse musical. There will be four shows, including a Saturday matinee. Tickets are $10.

When: Friday, 5 p.m.
Where: Carroll Field, Arundel High School

Details: The Arundel lacrosse teams finish up the regular season against Severna Park and honor the senior class. The girls will get things started at 5 p.m. and the boys will follow.

When: Friday, 4-10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.- 10 p.m.
Where: Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, Crownsville

Details: Forty-eight professional barbeque teams from around the country will compete for cash prizes. This event is hosted by the Parole Rotary Foundaton and will feature live music, cooking demonstrations and vendors. Proceeds will go to several causes, including Pediatric Emergency Inpatient Department at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Summer Camp Scholarship Program.

When: Saturday, noon-3 p.m.
Where: Arundel Middle School

Details: The school's anti-bullying club will host its first-ever conference. Topics will include healthy relationships, substance abuse, prevention of bullying, diversity, self-esteem, anxiety, domestic violence and sexual abuse.
