Five Things: School Budget, Democrats and Summer

Surely, everyone is prepared to skip town and hit the beach or some other relaxing locale. But that doesn't mean there's nothing going on here.

Here's a look at five things happening in the area this week.

Piney Orchard Community Association Meeting

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Piney Orchard Community Center

Details: The Piney Orchard board of directors will hold its monthly meeting. There will be time set aside for comments and questions from the public.

County Council Meeting

When: 7 p.m.
Where: 44 Calvert St., Annapolis.

Details: The council will meet to wrap up a few loose ends relating to the schools budget for fiscal year 2013, and vote on a measure relating to a change of contribution rate for firefighter and police pensions.

Board of Education Meeting

When: Wednesday, 10 a.m.
Where: 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis

Details: The annual school budget process will likely come to a close as the school board votes on adopting the capital and operating budgets for fiscal year 2013.

First Day of Summer

When: Wednesday
Where: Earth

Details: The Democratic state senator from District 21 will visit with the District 33 Democrats during their monthly meeting. Rosapepe will begin speaking at 7 p.m. following a business meeting, and will discuss the results of the 2012 legislative session.
