There's a big meeting about the rubble landfill planned in Crofton, a back to school fair, and a big church celebration.

We won’t lie. There are some weeks when the lack of newsy activity in Odenton makes us yearn to watch paint dry.

Not only are we entering the final week before the children of our fine town head back to school, but there are some key meetings and other interesting events that should keep us all pretty busy.

Here are five things worth checking out this week.

 

Where: Piney Orchard Community Center

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

 

This is the first board meeting since the community got a new property management team, so we may get an update on how the transition has gone. Look for other possible updates on issues relating to the landscape contract and traffic safety.

 

Information Session and Public Hearing on Tolson Rubble Landfill

 

Where: Crofton Elementary School

When: Thursday, 6 p.m.

 

The Maryland Department of the Environment has , at the end of Capitol Raceway Road. This is an opportunity to and how it impacts you.

 

District 33 Democrats Meeting

 

Where: Perry’s Restaurant, 1210 Annapolis Road, Odenton

When: 6-8 p.m.

 

The local Democratic club usually has a guest speaker at its monthly meetings at Perry’s, but this month it’s is forgoing that format for an “open mic” night. Anyone is invited to speak on any important local, state or national issue.

 

Epiphany Episcopal Church Celebration

 

Where: Epiphany Episcoal Church, 1419 Odenton Rd., Odenton.

When: Saturday, 8 a.m. -3 p.m.

 

Epiphany Episcopal Church will celebrate the completion of its restoration of the historic WWI chapel and peace garden. There will be a community bake, book and yard sale, plus a barbeque contest, live music and antiques.

 

Odenton/Crofton/Gambrills Back to School Fair

 

Where: Village at Waugh Chapel Community Center

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

 

Come get ready for the school year, with this event sponsored by the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce. It’s an opportunity to learn about what schools have planned for the coming year, while also getting an update on BRAC and the developments in the Odenton Town Center.
