County Council Work Session

When: Monday, 9 a.m.

Where: 44 Calvert St. Annapolis

Details: No, this time it's not a discussion of comprehensive rezoning. But the council will be briefed on matters relating to pensions and health plans for employees and retirees. That's a big issue as the county continues to work with a tightening budget.

New Teacher Orientation

When: Monday-Thursday, all day.

Where: Monday-Wednesday at Arundel High School and teachers' assigned schools. Thursday at  Arundel Community College.

Details: New teachers in Anne Arundel County Public Schools will get up to speed on what to expect when they start teaching in a few weeks.  

When: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.

Where: O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Rd, Odenton, MD

Details: Seniors can come get their eyes checked out by Jackie Nerette of the Maryland Society for Sight. Screenings are on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

When: Tuesday 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesday 1-3 p.m. and Thursday, 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: McGill Center

Details: Fort Meade is searching for some of the most talented people on base. ID Card holders only. Finalists will compete for cash on Sept. 10.

When: Friday morning. Exact time depends on the sport.

Where: Arundel High School

Details: All student-athletes should have received instructions from coaches on where to be and what to bring. Don't forget your permission slip from your parents and plenty of water.
