Five Things to Check Out This Week, Dec. 18-25

It's the final week before Christmas, but that doesn't mean the only thing going on is shopping and wrapping.

Now is the time to do your final gift-giving assessment. You don't want to be sitting at home on Dec. 24 only to realize that you forgot to get a gift for Aunt Mildred.

But while you're doing the last-minute holiday preparations, there are some important meetings and other events that might be worth pausing for. Here are five happening this week.

County Council Meeting

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.
Where:
44 Calvert St., Annapolis.

Details: The meeting agenda includes items related to capital projects for schools, an amendment to the lease of the Crofton library property and a vote on the stormwater management charge. There may also be a measure calling for the removal of council member Daryl Jones, who was recently sentenced to five years in prison for his failure to pay income taxes.

When: Tuesday, 3-6 p.m.
Where: Chamber offices, 8385 Piney Orchard Parkway, Odenton.

Details: If you're part of the business community, swing by the chamber offices for some mingling and holiday merriment.

School Board Meeting

When: Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Where: The school board will get its first look at the proposed 2013 Operating and Capital Budget. Yes, it's budget time already!

When: Tuesday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where: Doubletree Hotel, 210 Holiday Court, Annapolis

Details: Members of the O'Malley and South County Senior Activity Centers are invited for food, music, dancing and other holiday fun. There will be cash bar and door prizes. Tickets are $20.

When: Tuesday, 4 p.m.
Where: Meade High School

Details: After splitting a meet with Broadneck and North County, the Arundel wrestlers travel down Route 175 for a tri-meet against Meade and South River. Two wins could give the Wildcats momentum heading into next week's big holiday tournament.
