The new year is in full swing, and there's plenty going on this week in Odenton and Severn.

What, you thought the news would take a break in 2012? Nope. It's another busy week here in Odenton and Severn. Here are five events that might be worth checking out.

Where: Severn United Methodist Church, 1215 Old Camp Meade Rd., Severn

Details: Just in time for the Iowa caucuses, the guest speaker for the club’s January meeting is Karen Winterling, the state coordinator for Newt Gingrich’s campaign for president.

When: Tuesday, 5 p.m.

Where:

Details: Both teams enter this game without a loss. The Baltimore Sun picked this contest as its “Game of the Week.” The winner here gets the edge in the race for a county title.

 

Anne Arundel County Board of Education Meeting 

When: Wednesday, 10 a.m.

Where: 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis

Details: This is the final meeting of the school board before it holds public meetings next week on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2013. Wednesday’s agenda includes an update on the community engagement portion of the school system’s strategic plan.

 

West County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee Meeting

When: Thursday, 9 a.m.

Where: 8385 Piney Orchard Parkway, Odenton

Details: This is not open to the public, but committee members should be reminded of the first meeting of 2012. This is where many of the folks involved in the Odenton Town Center get together to share ideas.

 

Arundel High Information Night for PSAT and AP

When: Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Arundel High School

Details: Parents of kids at Arundel High should come for this important meeting to hear about the PSAT tests, and to find out more on whether their child would be a good fit for Advanced Placement courses.
