Five Things to Check Out This Week, Jan. 9-14

There are some big public hearings related to the school budget this week, some key sporting events at Arundel High, and a good opportunity to talk to with some cops about traffic in the Odenton-Severn area.

When: Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m.
Where: Tuesday's session is at , Thursday's session is at the Parham Building at 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis

Details: These will be the first two chances for the public to weigh in on Superintendent Kevin Maxwell's proposed budget for the county schools for fiscal year 2013. You can sign up to testify as soon as 6 p.m. While public testimony could be taken at future school board meetings, these are the only meetings set up specifically to hear feedback from the public.

Arundel Wrestling vs. Chesapeake

When: Tuesday, 7 p.m.

When: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Western District Police Station, 8273 Telegraph Rd., Odenton

Details: This month's meeting will feature a talk with Cpl. Tom Middleton, the traffic coordinator for the Anne Arundel County Police Department's western district. Officials from the county department of public works and planning and zoning may also be there. It's a great chance for residents to hear about the latest in traffic enforcement and any changes to roadways in the area.

Coffee With the Principal at Arundel High

When: Saturday, 9 a.m.
Where: Arundel High School Media Center
