Five Things to Check Out This Week, May 30-June 3

From graduations to green school ceremonies, here's a rundown of key events happening this week.

Memorial Day Events - There several events in Odenton designed to honor our war veterans. At 2 p.m. today, VFW Memorial Post 5172 will hold an open house at the Odenton Masonic Center. At 3 p.m. the post will hold a special ceremony at the Veterans Monument there. 

At 5 p.m., there will be a short Memorial Day parade starting at the Odenton Volunteer Fire Department.

Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee Meeting – The group overseeing the master plan for Odenton’s growth holds its monthly meeting. Get an update on some of the latest projects in town and how they might impact you.

Arundel High School Graduation – Expect a lot of teary-eyed parents and jubilant kids as high school seniors start the next chapter of their lives.

Board of Education Meeting – The school board meets for the final time before adopting its budget for FY 2012. This week’s agenda includes a vote on the renaming of West Meade Elementary

Where: 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis

When: 10 a.m.

Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit – Four Seasons Elementary School will be among the schools honored for achieving “Green” certification during the year. The summit will include awards ceremonies, a literacy bazaar and youth leadership development sessions.

When: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Piney Orchard Running Club Training Run – The weather is beautiful, so there’s no excuse not to come out. The club will tailor its workout to your experience and fitness level.
