Five Things to Check Out This Week, Nov. 14-19

It looks like it will be an interesting week in Odenton and nearby again. Here are five newsy events that might be worth checking out.

Arundel Volleyball in the State Semifinals

When: Monday, 6 p.m.
Where: Ritchie Coliseum, College Park

Details: The Lady Wildcats are just two wins away from a state championship, and face Bowie for a chance to reach the final. Last year, the team got to this point but lost. Will they get over the hump and take another big step toward the ultimate goal?

When: Wednesday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Club Meade, Fort Meade

Details: Veterans and non-veterans are invited to bring their resumes and dress sharp for this fair, featuring nearly 90 employers.

Anne Arundel County School Board Meeting

When: Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Where: 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis

Details: The school board will get an update on the county school system's strategic plan, specifically the issue of workforce quality goals. There will also be discussion of changes to a contract with Imagine Schools.

District 33 Democratic Club Meeting

When: Thursday, 6 p.m.
Where: , Odenton

Details: The local Dems host their final meeting of the year, with special guest Sheriff Ronald Bateman. There will be a regular business meeting, then Bateman will speak from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be a question and answer session.

When: Saturday, 4-7 p.m.
Where: Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church

Details: This is the unofficial start of the Christmas season in Odenton. Church members will reenact the wedding of Mary and Joseph, then invite the community to experience Bethlehem as it was during the time of Christ's birth. There will be cider and campfire.

Details: GOIA will hold its annual meeting and announce its choice for Odenton Citizen of the Year.

Details: Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot will visit Odenton Elementary as part of American Education Week activities.
