From school board meetings to gigantic football games, here are some things happening this week in the area.

It’s the first full week of October, and there’s a good amount of news happening in the area. Here are five events that might be worth checking out.
County Council Meeting
When: Monday, 7 p.m.

Details: Comprehensive rezoning for Districts Two, Three and Five are on the agenda, along with a bills addressing workforce housing and pet licenses.

Anne Arundel County Board of Education Meeting
When: Tuesday, 10 a.m.
Where: 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD
Details: School board members will vote on a 29-member executive committee for its Citizens Advisory Committee. Every cluster will have two representatives, and there will be five at-large members.
Magnet Program Information Session
When: Wednesday, 6 p.m.
Where: Old Mill High School, 600 Patriot Lane, Millersville.
Details: There are 13 magnet school programs offered to students in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The first date to apply was Oct. 1. Students and parents can learn about the various International Baccalaureate, STEM and Performance Arts programs, among others.
Gov. O’Malley Talks Bullying Prevention
When: Thursday, 8:45 a.m.
Where: Arundel High School
Details: Arundel High will hosts the state kick-off event for Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Gov. Martin O’Malley and his wife, Catherine, will be in attendance, along with representatives from Facebook and Time Warner, Inc.
Arundel Football vs. Old Mill
When: Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Carroll Field, Arundel High School.
Details: This is the biggest game of the season so far in Anne Arundel County. Both teams are undefeated, and the winner will be in good shape for the county title and the top seed in the Class 4A East Regional. These two teams have played some great games in recent years, so this is not a game you want to miss.
