Community Corner

Flats170. Sustainable thinking. Exceptional living.

Flats170 at Academy Yard is a brand new apartment community in Odenton, Maryland, dedicated to sustainability and currently seeking LEED Silver certification for Homes.

Flats170 has been focused on building a green community in Odenton since construction began in 2012. By using more than 75% recycled and regionally sourced materials and with over 90% of construction waste diverted to recycling facilities, versus landfills, Flats170 is built on The Bozzuto Group’s core value of maintaining sustainable business practices.

Key green features of the community include green spaces and landscaping, water conservation, utility efficiency, appliance efficiency, and a green cleaning program that uses only eco-friendly products to clean all common areas and amenity spaces.

Outdoor green spaces are landscaped with native plants carefully selected to limit irrigation and reduce potable water use; low-flow showerheads and faucets, dual-flush toilets, sink aerators and ENERGY STAR appliances achieve a water savings of more than 30% compared to non-green communities.

The non-smoking community at Flats170 helps to improve and maintain the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, and staff. Recycling containers are easily accessible to residents and the hassle-free nature of the recycling program ensures maximum participation.

LEED is a U.S. Green Building Council Program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design and it’s transforming the way people think about how buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated around the world.
