Methane, Munitions for Fort Meade Environmental Board

The agenda for the Fort Meade Restoration Advisory Board includes an update on a munitions sweep in the Little Patuxent River and the drilling of monitoring wells to test water quality.

The Fort Meade Restoration Advisory Board will meet Thursday night, and has five major items on the agenda, including two new presentations.

The board, which monitors efforts to remediate environmental problems on and around Fort Meade, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Captain John Smathers Reserve Center on Maryland Route 175 between 20 1/2 and 21st streets.

  • A presentation from Steve Cardon of the Fort Meade BRAC office with the results of a munitions sweep of the Little Patuxent River.
  • A presentation from John Cherry of Arcadis regarding off-post drilling for water quality monitoring. The report will relate to possible chemical contamination stemming from a building known as "Operational Unit 4" on Fort Meade.
  • An update on measures to remove and recover methane from the Manor View dump site on Fort Meade.
  • An update on efforts to clean up groundwater contamination in Odenton.

The board also plans to introduce new members and will set aside time for public comment.
