Fort Meade Fire Department Earns Army's Top Honor
The Army named the department the top small department for 2011. It will now compete against other small departments throughout the Department of Defense.
The fire department at Fort Meade has been named the Army's top small department for 2011.
The Fort Meade Department of Fire and Emergency Services will now compete against all small departments throughout the Department of Defense, Fort Meade's website reported.
The department earned the recognition after responding to about 2,400 emergencies inside and outside the Fort Meade gates in 2011. In the department's nomination packet, it also touted its use of Facebook, its participation in the annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, and its involvement in a ceremony to honor lives lost on September 11.
