Fort Meade plans to build a new course near the intersection of Route 32 and Route 175, as the existing course is gradually being removed to accomodate new development on base.

Historically, profits from the golf course have gone to provide extra money for wellness and recreation programs for military members and their families on base. In recent years, the golf course has lost money, in part due to stricter access to the installation and a reduction in holes. Several holes have been eliminated as new agencies including the Defense Information Systems Agency and Defense Media Activities have build new headquarters.

Officials hope to eventually build a new, 36-hold golf course around the time when the existing course would close.
