Fort Meade Unit Trains Soldiers for East Africa
The First Army Division East, based out of Fort Meade, has been involved in specialized training for missions to Somalia and other spots on the Horn of Africa.
Soldiers based out of Fort Meade have recently started training units for work in the Horn of Africa.
According to this video obtained from the Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System, the First Army Division East has been working in Camp Atterbury, IN, with the 205th Infantry Brigade on cultural awareness and other issues. The soldiers will eventually be sent to countries like Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia to work with civil affairs teams.
"This mission is very non-kinetic," Capt. Micah Turner, an Army plans chief, says in the video. "It's a partnership, and about building the relationships in the host nations. It's a very different mission than the Army's been engaged in lately."
