Fresh Produce for Sale on Patuxent Road
A local family-owned farm is selling vegetables, fruit and herbs grown on 27 acres at the south end of Odenton.
Patrick Padilla doesn't have to travel far to find the vegetables he sells at the stand alongside Patuxent Road in Odenton.
He can just turn around and pick them from the field behind him.
Padilla has been operating Home Grown Produce for most of the summer, offering locally grown vegetables, including corn, cucumbers, peppers, plus a big crop of tomatoes and herbs.

Soon, he'll be selling pumpkins, squash and some other fall goods.
"It's been going really good," Padilla said. "Every day we're getting more people to slow down and stop in. The word is getting out, and a lot of our customers are happy about what we have."

The farm is owned by Robert Pumphrey, the uncle of Padilla's girlfriend. The farm once sold vegetables under a previous owner, and Pumprhrey decided to bring back the practice. He put Padilla to work farming 27 of the 33 acres.
At first, the pair began selling vegetables from a table, trusting customers to pay using the honor system. While sales were good, it also made them susceptible to theft. They build a full stand and Padilla has manned it every day since.
"After the first month, we were like 'woah, we're on to something," Padilla said.
Home Grown Produce is located at 1248 Patuxent Road. It is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but could close earlier as the days become shorter. It will close on Nov. 4 and re-open in June.
