Sports Bar Returns To Anne Arundel County After Hiatus

The Greene Turtle returned to Gambrills after a hiatus. The sports bar previously closed its Waugh Chapel pub, but now it's back.

The Greene Turtle on Monday opened its 35th sports bar. The newest pub is located in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre. This is the restaurant's second time opening a location in the Gambrills shopping hub. The previous eatery closed a few years ago.

GAMBRILLS, MD — The Greene Turtle opened a sports bar Monday in Gambrills. This is the restaurant's second stint in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre.

Dozens of TVs are spread across the 7,011-square-foot space. The open floor plan centers around a rectangular bar. Booths, tables and hightops are also available.

A ribbon message board displays the latest scores and athletics news. Maryland flag designs and plush green turf decorate the walls.

The eatery will additionally offer outdoor seating when it's warmer. For now, a retro Greene Turtle pick-up truck adorns the patio.

The menu includes regional favorites like crab dip and Smith Island Cake. The buffalo chicken nachos and the grilled salmon sandwich are other signature items.

"The Greene Turtle started in Ocean City as a place where beer was king and the 'menu' consisted of a barrel of peanuts," the business said in its Facebook biography. "Over time, we've grown an obsession with making good food and a belief that staying true to ourselves is what matters most. We make hearty food using fresh ingredients and highlight the blue crab dishes that are authentic to the Mid-Atlantic."

The bar also has a beer special for its regulars. Patrons who pay a one-time $40 charge will get $1 off every 16 oz. draft that they buy in the future. This deal applies at all 35 Greene Turtles spread across:

  • Delaware
  • Maryland
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

The old Waugh Chapel location closed a few years ago. That restaurant was situated near Maryland Route 3 at 2383 Brandermill Blvd. Smashing Grapes, a wine bar, filled the vacancy.

The new facility is located at 1407 South Main Chapel Way Suite 115. The eatery occupies the empty space left by Houlihan's Restaurant + Bar. It sits directly across from Fuji Japanese Steakhouse as well as Regal Waugh Chapel & IMAX.
