HANOVER, MD -- Live! Casino & Hotel executive chef Ed Evans was thrilled to be invited to appear on the reality TV show Chopped. Evans shared with Patch before appearing on the show how blessed he was for the opportunity, considering he got his start cooking in grandmomma's kitchen, prepping collard greens and peeling sweet potatoes.

"That's where my love for food began. Everything was made from scratch and with a hands-on approach in the kitchen," Evans told Patch. "I quickly found out that it came naturally to me."

Sadly, Evans did not advance past the first two rounds. He was facing the dessert round for the Fourth of July-themed episode with his sights set on nabbing the $10,000 prize to benefit youth back home in Baltimore. He wanted to reach out to under-served communities in Baltimore that are involved in the culinary arts.

Even though Evans did not make it to the final round, his employer Live! Casino & Hotel decided to fill that void and will be donating $10,000 to the Y of Central Maryland in support of an “Around the World on a Plate” lunch for the community. Evans sits on the Y's Anne Arundel County community leadership board and was grateful for the generosity of his employer.
