HANOVER, MD — An Anne Arundel County man and his wife are packing their bags for their next trip after they won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5. The Hanover man, who calls himself Sporty, won the prize on a quick-pick ticket in the Aug. 6 drawing.

The Hanover couple, who are avid travelers, were checking in on their daughter's Anne Arundel County house when Sporty remembered there was a "lucky" lottery retailer along the route.

"He says, 'Let's go by Downs Park because there's a lucky 7-Eleven down there," his wife told the Maryland Lottery.

Sporty sauntered into the 7-Eleven at 4730 Mountain Rd. in Pasadena, bought a $2 quick-pick ticket for the Aug. 6 drawing and left. A hospital technician, Sporty didn't find out he had won until he arrived home from work and checked the numbers on his phone.

“I’m sitting at the kitchen typing and he walks over and says, ‘You know, I always told you I’d hit big one day.’ I’m not looking up. I’m still typing. He’s nervous. He’s serious. He walks over with his phone and shows me and it says, ‘$50,000,’” she said. “I didn’t believe it.”
