HANOVER, MD —A 12-year-old Hanover girl has died after she was hit by a car as she crossed the street Tuesday night, Anne Arundel County Police say. Julianna Forgrave was crossing Clark Road near Linda Place in Hanover about 8 p.m. when the accident happened.

Police say a Toyota driven by Gregory Allen Springs, 55, of Hanover, was westbound on Clark Road when Forgrave crossed Clark Road. Springs did not see the girl and struck her in the travel lane.

Forgrave was initially taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and then transferred to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics, where she ultimately died from her injuries.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error, police said. Speed may have also contributed to this crash, police said in a news release. Springs remained at the scene and there is no indication of alcohol use.

Springs was not hurt in the crash.
