Haven Apartments Earn 'Green' Certification

Johnson Development announced that the project is the first of its kind in Maryland to be praised for environmental consciousness.

The developer of the new Haven at Odenton Gateway apartments received a special certification last week for its environmental conservation efforts.

Johnson Development of South Carolina announced that the 252-unit apartment complex was the first in Maryland to achieve the National Green Building Standard Silver certification.

According to a press release, the Haven apartments feature enhanced storm-water treatment and a low-volume irrigation system. There is also a recycling facility on site, and each apartment has high-efficiency windows, lighting and heating and air conditioning systems. All appliances at the Haven are Energy Star certified.

“This project serves as a model that provides high-performance green initiatives are healthy, productive places to live, are less costly to operate and maintain, and have a reduced environmental footprint,” said Michael Luzier, president and CEO of the National Association of Homebuilders Research Center, in the press release.
