Hollywood is Calling Military Families

Producers are looking for service members, their spouses and their kids for new programs and specials, including a possible show called "Military Wives of San Diego."

Hurry, get your agent on the phone! Oh, you don’t have one?  Well, you’d better go sign with one, because Hollywood is looking for you. Lights, camera and action could be in your future.

A few months ago, I wrote a Military Monday column about in an effort to bring them civilian support. Recently, I have seen several examples of the industry seeking out military families in particular for various television programs.

Our family went to a drive-in theater just outside of Baltimore a few weeks ago and saw the movie A Dolphin Tale.  The movie itself is about a dolphin that because of an injury needs a prosthetic tail in order to survive. The supporting story is about a wounded soldier who finds inspiration and hope by watching the dolphin’s struggles and triumphs. Footage of actual wounded veterans coming to visit the dolphin is shown during the credits.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition just finished a casting call for a military family in need for a future episode, but in July, as part of the , First Lady Michelle Obama participated in an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition in the town of Fayetteville, NC. They built a brand new house for Barbara Marshall, a 15-year Navy veteran who has dedicated her life to combating homelessness among female veterans.

I thought I would share a few open casting calls that are currently seeking military families.

This last casting call is not local, but it sure sounds like a fun show to watch! Because the military really is one big family, odds are that you know someone in San Diego that you can pass this on to.
