Las Vegas Shooting: Arundel High Grad Shot In Eye, In Coma

GAMBRILLS, MD — A 2008 Arundel High School graduate attended a weekend concert in Las Vegas, where she was among the 500 injured in the nation's worst shooting. Tina Frost was shot in the right eye, which doctors removed in surgery, and is in a coma, her family says.

Gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, massacred 59 concert-goers and left another 500-plus injured under the glitz of the Las Vegas Strip Sunday on the third night of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival as country music star Jason Aldean was performing. Paddock had taken up a perch 32 floors above the festival outside the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

Just after 10 p.m. local time on Sunday, Paddock, from his room high above where he had arsenal of 23 weapons, began unloading into the crowd below. Despite the large death toll and scores of wounded, authorities say that police reacted quickly and Paddock shot himself to death as officers blew open his hotel door.

Frost's family has flown to Las Vegas to be with her, the school posted on Facebook. A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with expenses had raised more than $81,000 by Tuesday morning.

The GoFundMe page creator shared this message from Mary Watson Moreland, the mother of Tina Frost, on her daughter's condition on Monday: "Tina is out of surgery and her vitals are stable. They removed her right eye, where the bullet was lodged, and there is an implant there now to keep the space open. She has sight in her left eye but will never see from the right again. They took out a bone from her forehead to allow the brain room to swell, that will stay out for a few months. She's in a coma and on a ventilator, she cannot breathe on her own. She's critically stable in ICU for at least a week. Over the next few days, they're going to see how she responds to simulation, but until then, we won't know how bad the brain damage is.”

The fundraiser is aimed at covering all expenses such as traveling, food, hotels, missed work, and caring for Frost, friends said.

Arundel High School is also collecting money for the family, according to the school's Facebook page. Frost played on the soccer team while at Arundel and was on the All-County team in 2007.

The school will be collecting money for the family in their time of need. Supporters should contact Mrs. Davenport with any questions.
