Laurel Man Airlifted, Jessup Teen Killed in Route 198 Crash
The teen was driving a motorcycle that had been reported stolen, police said.
A 17-year-old from Jessup died Saturday night and a Laurel man was taken to shock trauma after a crash near Laurel Park, according to police.
At approximately 10:39 p.m. Saturday, police said the teen was driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle reported stolen from Columbia when he crashed into an Isuzu Rodeo on MD Route 198 at Race Track Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates the teen and another motorcyclist, who left the scene, were headed west on Route 198 from Brock Bridge Road when the Kawasaki hit the side of the Rodeo, which was making a left turn onto Race Track Road, according to police.
The 17-year-old was ejected from the motorcycle, while the SUV went through the intersection and came to rest on Race Track Road, according to the report.
The driver of the Rodeo, a 53-year-old man from Laurel, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Sunday, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
The Jessup teen, who lived in the 7800 block of Old Jessup Road, was pronounced dead, police said.
The other motorcyclist left the scene without stopping, according to officials.
Excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said.
