Live Music Guide for the Weekend

Put down the new iPod you got for Christmas and enjoy some music performed by real, live humans at a couple of local spots.

The Ravens aren't playing this weekend, but that doesn't mean you can't hit the local watering holes. There are four distinct musical acts performing around town this weekend.

On Friday night, in Odenton will offer music from 40 Dollar Fine, described on their website as “raucous roots rock, alt country and a pinch of blues at its finest."

“You’ll hear songs that haven’t been run into the ground—some you’ll know and some you won’t,” the band writes.

40 Dollar Fine has its own YouTube channel featuring more than 30 clips. Here’s a clip of the band performing at JV’s Restaurant in Falls Church, VA, in December.

On Saturday, Perry’s will host Strait Shooter, a Baltimore-based band known for its rock 'n' roll and country covers. There are song samples on the band’s website featuring renditions of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” by Tom Petty, and “3 a.m." by Matchbox Twenty.

Full disclosure: I saw Strait Shooter perform on the Ocean City boardwalk over the summer and enjoyed myself.

in Gambrills has music this weekend as well, beginning with Baltimore rock/country favorite Mike Butler. His video for the song “Charm City” is a hoot (features crabs spread out over newspaper in the back seat of a limousine), and the song “Choptank River Boys” is a local favorite.

Kaufmann’s will also have music from PJ and Neal. I am still on a search for more information about this duo, and will continue to dream that it’s Pearl Jam and Neil Young performing together, unless I am told otherwise. Here’s them performing "Throw Your Hatred Down."
