Manor View Students Get $15k for iPads

Students at Manor View Elementary School will have the chance to use some new Apple iPads, thanks to a major grant from Target Corp.

The major retailer awarded the Fort Meade school a $15,000 grant as part of its "Apps for Reading" program, according to a press release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

The grant will allow the school to purchase 30 iPads and a special iPad cart. Manor View had already been working to create an iPad lab. 

In the press release, Manor View Principal Donna O'Shea said the iPads will come in handy as the school seeks to become a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

"It will be key in making learning exciting and relevant, and will help us to connect with classrooms in other parts of the world,” O'Shea said. “Being on Fort Meade, we serve the children of military families and receive new students very often.”

This is not the first time Target has helped out the students and staff at Manor View. In 2010, the company gave a major makeover to the school library and donated more than 2,000 books.
