My New Favorite Photo of Odenton
Patch blogger Tommy Warshaw may have captured a perfect image of Odenton.
Just the other day I was scanning through our on Patch to see what people have uploaded. Truth be told, this is not something I glance at very often, because we don't do a great job of letting people know it's there.
I discovered a picture Wednesday that nearly took my breath away.
It's a photo taken at the Odenton MARC station, and features a train whizzing by the station at high speed. Because of the way it's exposed, you can see the lights of the parking lot across the tracks. , took the photo.

I love this picture because it looks really cool and definitely requires some skill to pull off.
Most of all, I love how it captures Odenton on multiple levels.

First, it's a scene of the MARC station, which is a recognizable landmark in town. Most commuters can look at that sign and know exactly where it is, and people will know that Odenton is a big hub for people working in Washington and Baltimore.
By capturing the old station—especially the sign—Tommy captured a nugget of the town's railroad history.
I think the image of the train also symbolizes how Odenton is moving quickly. It's a town "on the move," as people are increasingly seeing it as a hub of activity in between major cities.
But at the same time, the picture captures the quiet stillness of the town at night. Despite all of the activity around here, it's still a great place to come home to and lay down your head.
With Tommy's blessing, I decided to use this photo as the backdrop on the Odenton-Severn Patch Facebook Page. It immediately received dozens of "likes" and great feedback.
I hope you like the photo as much as I do.
