New Fort Meade Commander Talks About 'Balance'

Col. Edward Rothstein has penned his first letter to the Fort Meade community.

Having just returned from a year-long tour in Afghanistan, new Fort Meade Installation Commander Col. Edward Rothstein knows about the stress placed on military families.

Rothstein, who officially took over as commander at the end of July, told service members on base that he's learned to "understand and recognize the sacrifices families have made during the past 10 years ... that is why balance in our lives is so important."

Rothstein is married with two children, and was assigned to Fort Meade on two previous occasions. It his family, he said, that has helped him strike a balance between work and play.
