October Snow in Patchland

Throughout the northeast, Patch websites captured the news and images of a rare October snowfall. Here's how a handful of sites chronicled the wintry event.

Folks in Odenton and the nearby area were spared the worst of wacky storm that brought heavy snow and power outages to thousands of homes all the way up through the Mid-Atlantic region and New England.

Eighteen high school football players were hospitalized with symptoms of hypothermia after playing in near-freezing temperatures and a driving rain. There was a similar case in Merrick, NY. Everyone is expected to be OK.

- Nearly a foot of snow fell in some parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with 6,000 people without power in the small town of Tewskbury alone.
