Odenton Man's Purchase Fills His Gas Tank, Banks $50K

An Odenton truck driver on his way to work stopped at Royal Farms and won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5.

ODENTON, MD — A quick stop to get gas and put air in his tire at a Royal Farms store in Odenton led to a $50,000 Maryland Lottery win for a 46-year-old Odenton man.

The winner, who said he had a funny feeling he should purchase a Bonus Match 5 ticket, also played the Pick 4 game before heading to work as a truck driver.

“I play here and there,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials. “I just had a hunch to purchase a couple of tickets last night.”

Since the Anne Arundel County resident works nights, he didn’t get a chance to watch the April 10 Bonus Match 5 drawing. Instead, he checked his numbers in the morning after work.

“I was about to purchase another Pick 4 ticket when I remembered to check the Bonus Match 5 game,” he said. The ticket scanner as well as the cashier told him the prize was too big to cash there.

The elated player went home to change out of his work clothes and headed to the Lottery to claim his $50,000 prize. He first visited the Lottery’s Customer Resource Center in Lanham. There, he got great news – his prize was so big he had to come to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to collect his winnings.

The laid-back player is still letting realization of the win sink in. “I look at this as a blessing,” he said. The loyal player plans to pay bills with his prize and put the rest into his savings.
